Fun Times out on the Town

No I have not died, been kidnapped or given up on the blog ....just busy and not doing anything very exciting lately.  I have been spending my weekends catching up on all my marking and planning ahead so I will have nothing to do while on vacation at the end of February.  We have a week off as a Sports Holiday from February 23 to March 3.  I have a second week off in April over Easter.

Last night I broke the streak of staying home weekends and went to Stefanie's birthday celebration at Hemlin.  It is a really neat bar on the 26th floor of a building overlooking Stockholm.  The view was breathtaking with all the lights twinkling.  It was a clear night so you could see a long way out.

There were about 18 people in our group and the bar was packed.  It was a more mature crowd which was nice since I wasn't the oldest one in the bar.  This is often the case when I go out with staff after work. The average age in the bar is like 25 and I feel old. I got to meet new people, put faces on coworker's partners and get to know others better outside of work.  A very relaxing evening with no one getting stupid drunk. Just a really enjoyable time.

Then believe it or not we went to McDonald's to eat after the bar. Not my choice obviously, but fun. It was the first McDonald's I have been in since coming to Stockholm.  I had a chicken sandwich which was pretty much the same as ones at home but about half the cost.  I found this strange since everything else in Stockholm is more expensive.

We are having similar weather to Windsor with intermittent snow and rain.  Also the freezing temperatures (-14 to -20) and then mild ones (0 to 4), creating a lot of icy streets and sidewalks.  We had lots of snow on Friday for our winter sports day at school.  The students loved it.  They got to play outside all day at a variety of activities.  However it started raining Friday evening and all day Saturday and now most of the snow is gone.  This is unfortunate since my class is suppose to be going cross country skiing Wednesday and now there is no snow. It is likely to get cancelled which will be very disappointing for them.  It is unlikely that it will get rescheduled.  Oh well that is life.... you can't control the weather.

I hope everyone is having a great February I will talk to you again soon.
