Happy Easter!

Just wishing everyone a very Happy Easter.  Celebrate the joy of the Risen Christ.

I had a great Easter.  I went to church and then a long walk in the warm sunshine.  We were lucky in Sweden, it has been bright and sunny with temperatures in the mid to high teens all week.  I have gotten a lot of walking in between my periods of marking/planning and relaxing.

My old roommate moved out Friday.  It was sad since we got along so well and did many things together.  A different girl moved in last week.  She doesn't speak English so I can't see having the same type of friendship.  She does speak Kurdish so she will be able to talk to the landlord.

My landlady is in London for the next month and the girl was away for the weekend so it was a quiet Easter.  It seems strange not being home with the kids.  Unfortunately the Easter bunny did not come to the Brassett house in Canada.

At least it kinda made an appearance in Sweden.  We had an Easter egg hunt at school the Wednesday before the break. Our house team came in second for the most eggs found. Then we played games, decorated eggs and had fika complete with beer, wine and soft drinks.  What school in Canada would let the staff have a party at the school with beer and wine?  It was fun.  Everyone got to take eggs home for the holiday.  I will be eating mine later this evening as a special treat.

Here is a new piece of subway art.  Well not new but new to me.  I saw it at a station after I got on the wrong train this morning and had to get changed around.  Not my fault entirely, the train I wanted was not running due to construction.  I did however make it to church on time.  And the picture is very spring and Easter-y.

Enjoy your week!

Another week off

Pasklov - Easter break is 10 days in Sweden, so I have a week plus Easter Monday off.  It is like a second March break....even if one was in February and the other in April.

This week will not be as exciting as the last one as I am staying in Stockholm and relaxing.  I am also doing some extended planning, catching up on my marking and getting ready for the end of the school year which will be here before we know it.   The weather has been warming up and the sun has been shining so it has been great weather for walking.  They are for casting 20 degrees C for Friday and a great Easter weekend.

Today I was in Hornstull for an appointment and walked along the canal afterwards.  It was very peaceful, with lots of wild life.  Here are a few pictures of the ones that were not camera shy.

This is doggie daycare out for a stroll.  There had to be 24 dogs out with those 4 ladies.  All well behaved dogs.  It was amazing to watch them all walk in sync.

I also saw a group of eight children out with two male adults.  The five young males were actually swimming, well jumping in and getting out quickly.  Last week it was freezing with snow flurries.  Today is was 8 degrees Celsius. Warm enough for a spring jacket, but swimming? The water is definitely not warm enough for swimming.  At least the three girls had enough common sense to stay out of the water.

You just wonder about some people.

Have a great week.

Exploring the Medieval Museum

I found another free museum ..... The Medieval Museum in Stockholm, just outside Gamla Stan behind the palace.  It is actually built under the bridge and has the remains of the old town wall excavated inside.

This is the back of the palace and the people are walking on the bridge it is under.

This is the museum under the bridge

It featured Swedish history from the beginnings of Stockholm pre-1252 through  the 17th century.   It was quite interesting.  There was information on the hierarchy of the trades people in the town and lots of other interesting things.  A small town was reconstructed inside .  They sure didn't have many tall people back then based on the sizes of the houses.

Here is an old boat, well parts of it at least.  The old wall is to the left of the boat.  Underneath is the inside of what remains of the vessel.

This is a wooden crucifix from the church, dating back to the 12th century.

Here are some wax figures of a jouster.

I really enjoyed my time at the museum.

Here is a cool looking building I saw on my walk to the museum.

This one is an army building.

I saw the pre-show for the changing of the guards at the palace.  They parade around town with a brass band, guards and police on horseback.

This is a cool statue.

This is the opera house

That was my excitement for the day.
